PROJECT:  MAIZE MEAL FEEDING SCHEME

Goal:

Through this project we intend to supply schools in our community with maize meal for children who are in lack of food due to poverty and dysfunctional homes.

Strategy:

Need:

The maize bags are delivered at the identified schools on a weekly basis. Every school has its own personnel to prepare the porridge to supply the children with at least one meal per day.

We need as much maize as we can get. Topup has a maize account at a local farmer where donors can deliver their contribution. Supplies are drawn from the account as long as there is stock available.

PROJECT: DOMESTIC VEGETABLE GARDENS

The Vegetable gardens is a project that helps people to be self sufficient and to experience the joy of planning and cultivating their own vegetables.

During 2015 the Vegetable Garden Project started at Botleng as a sub division of the Tswelopele Upliftment Project.  Community members are taught how to prepare and manage a door size vegetable garden. The vegetable gardens are flourishing as more households realize the benefits of being self sufficient. It enhances cooperation  and social cohesion, because households help one another to prepare seedbeds and to share  seedlings. It brings them much pleasure to cultivate, prepare, cook and eat their own vegetables.

Goal:

To equip people to be self-sufficient in growing their own vegetables for personal use by using their back yards.

Strategy:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

To make use of the available soil around the home to plant usable vegetables for healthy meals.
To make use of the ‘no-dig garden method’ to increase the yield and minimize the use of water.
To train people to plant the most effective types of plants for the suitable season of the year.
To give people the value of self-sustainability and dignity.

Objective:

To train people about the importance of healthy fresh vegetables in their diet. The suggested method of gardening is based on minimum exposure of soil to the sun to prevent evaporation and the germination of weeds. This procedure also limits the use of water.

PROJECT:  COMPUTER TRAINING

Goal:

As part of the Hosios primary school’s curriculum, the training of students and adults are essential to equip them to be computer literate.

Strategy:

1.
2.

3.
4.

Make use of an accredit computer curriculum.
Train students and adults to use a computer and to use on their CV for future reference in application for jobs.
Equip a computer centre for training.
Issue successful students with certificate of completion.

Objective:

A plan has already been drawn up and permitted to expand the existing building where Hosios School is hosted on the same premises. By also making use of the Brick Project this building can be built at much less cost than average expenses.

We are working closely together with the Directorate for Skill Development of the municipality of Delmas to ensure that there are training sessions of different skills so that the people are skill empowered.  This is done in order to ensure that those who are being trained develop their God given talent. Our computer training is focused on two individual groups: All adults (employed and unemployed) and School Children in Botleng.

There are nine government schools in Botleng.  Each one of these schools has an average of 800 to 1000 pupils, leaving us with 9000 pupils.  Except for one primary school who is already presenting computer training, none of the other schools have computer training at their schools.
